Preparing For BUGS! Ugh!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you’re still enjoying using your brand new oils from your Premium Starter Kit!

Remember, if you haven’t ordered your Premium Starter Kit from Young Living yet, you can do so here.  I can’t overstate how easy this Kit makes it to get started with introducing oils into your everyday life! And if you follow along with me on my blog journey, eventually you’ll have used every oil in your Kit! Then you’ll wonder, as I did, why it took you so long to introduce these wonderful products into your home and your life! The Kit contains $300.00 in oils and products, including a diffuser – A DIFFUSER! – for $160.00. And if you choose – and ONLY if you choose – you can actually start your own business – all for a $160.00 investment. If you have questions please reach out! I want to help you on your path as I have been helped on mine!!

I’m going just slightly off topic today, only because I’m going to be talking about a few products that are not in your Kit. However – now that you’ve enrolled as a Young Living Member, you can purchase these items at the wholesale price through your Young Living account! We’re about to go camping at the beach (yay beach!) for the long holiday weekend. I have always told people that historically, *I* am the best bug repellent anyone could have. Sit next to me – if I don’t have something deterring the little blood suckers, you won’t be bothered. I’ll be bitten to pieces! Something about my blood they seem to really enjoy and come back for seconds!

When camping, or even in the back yard, I have bug spray with me at all times. I used to use the stuff with DEET in it – you know the products I’m talking about. And ugh, DEET is just a horrible substance! Even when I was using it, I didn’t like using it. But it was DEET or bites and scratching….so I chose DEET.

Enter Essential Oils to my life! In my research (remember – I’ve been researching a lot! It’s what I do for a living, and sometimes I’m called an “over analyzer”, but my research yields me a lot of answers!), I found some of the best oils to repel pests. Did you know you can mix purified water with peppermint oil and rid your home of ants. I just did this yesterday! My house, inside and out, smelled soooo minty! (And so did I – I may have to get a new sprayer!) This was the first oil I found that was good at repelling pests.

Citronella oil, of course, is great for those biting pests.

And before you ask – it does NOT smell like those waxy candles on your Grandmother’s back porch (c’mon people, you know what I’m referring to…). Citronella oil certainly has the same scent, but it’s a much more clean, pure smelling variety of the candle. And it’s GREAT for saving yourself from mosquito bites!

Remember my last post talked about Purification oil.

In addition to taking care of the smelly stuff in your home, it is also great for repelling insects!

So is Thieves, which we haven’t talked about yet (but we will – oh my, the things I do with Theives oil in my home – I can’t live without this oil!), and Lemongrass and Eucalyptus Radiata.

So, one of these oils is great at fighting off the bugs – I thought hey, what would ALL of them do for someone like me, who is basically a buffet for anything that stings? So I started experimenting, and came up with a bug spray that smells amazing, AND IT WORKS! And the best part – it is DEET free!

When I tell you how easy this is to make, you’re going to think I’m lying. But stay with me and consider trying this. This is so much safer for your health than DEET!

I mix equal parts of each oil, and how much depends on the container I’m filling. So if I had a small spray bottle, say a two ounce capacity, I’d place ten drops of each oil in the bottle. I started with this two ounce bottle:

Glass Spray Bottle 2oz

Eventually I moved on to a four ounce bottle because (1) I like to be outside and (2) I don’t like to be bitten. So I keep a healthy supply of this bug spray on hand.

Next I heat up some water (I heat the water I use to create blends because I find it allows the oils to mix better), and add equal parts heated water and witch hazel (one ounce each for a two ounce spray bottle). Shake and place in the fridge for an hour or so to cool the mixture before I spray it on myself. DO NOT SPRAY HOT WATER ON YOURSELF. Yes, I’m telling you this from experience. Live and learn, right?

That’s it. See how easy that was?

I would love for you to try this and let me know how it works for you! I had this on at an all day softball event for my daughter a week or so ago and every time I sprayed it, someone would comment how wonderful it smelled! I can honestly tell you – no one ever complemented me on the smells of the DEET repellent I used to use! Again – if you haven’t ordered your Premium Starter Kit to start on your path to a healthier lifestyle without chemicals, you can start your journey here.

I hope you all have a wonderful and SAFE weekend and holiday! As always if you have questions, or want more information that you don’t see here, contact me!

Until next time – take care y’all!
